Barking up the wrong tree

Just the interesting stuff.

7 of the most powerful persuasion techniques by expert Robert Cialdini (Video):

Ever since studying negotiating in school I've been fascinated with it. I've posted about the subject a few times in the past: here's how to use the good cop/bad cop technique, a great method for getting a deal on a car, the optimal starting price for negotiations and auctions, and how to easily make more money on eBay.

Cialdini's seminal book is here. I also recommend his more recent release Yes!: 50 Scientifically Proven Ways to Be Persuasive.

Getting to Yes can teach you to be a good negotiator while still being a nice person. If you're less Jedi and more Sith, check out Jim Camp.

Check out Bargaining for Advantage. It combines the principled negotiation of Getting to Yes with the psychology of Influence. Written by a Wharton school professor. It is the best negotiation book period.

Good catch, Rose. I did a quick search and on Cialdini's Wikipedia page they only list six as well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Cialdini Did I mention I didn't make the video? :)

Cialdini's books are great. I like Jim Camp, too. Nice Star Wars analogy!

The seventh is the principle of contrast which isn't discussed in this video.
