Does personality predict what sex acts people are interested in?

.

I read through the new paper “Predicting Preferences for Sex Acts: Which Traits Matter Most, and Why?” and plucked out a few interesting results:

  • People who have trouble connecting with others may prefer positions other than missionary. These positions may also prevent closeness in a relationship:

…avoidantly attached individuals were less likely to engage in missionary style vaginal intercourse. This finding (and other, related findings documented by Zeifman and Hazan) suggests that a preference for ―alternative sex acts may serve to reduce the likelihood of pairbonding – they may be less likely to activate parts of the brain that facilitate pair bond development.

  • People who are very sexually open are less likely to be neurotic, agreeable or conscientious. Remember those calm, difficult slackers in high school?
  • What was the biggest predictor of liking or disliking anal sex? Gender. Males liked it more, females liked it less.
  • Extraverts liked receiving oral sex and neurotic people not so much.
  • Conscientious people didn’t like anal sex.
  • People who scored low on “agreeableness” were more likely to enjoy masturbation. (I guess they have to.)
  • Less agreeable women showed a higher preference for anal sex and masturbation than average.
  • Extraverted women preferred performing oral sex more than average.
